Canonized on January 13th 2015 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and celebrated every year on July 12th, St. Paisios of Mount Athos (1924-1994) is a wonderful gift the Greek Orthodoxy and the Holy Mountain gave humanity and this world. St. Paisios of Mount Athos showed one more time that holiness is not just a superior goal or ideal, but a concrete reality that can be achieved regardless of this passing world unrest. Holy people will live until the end of time and they will be “cardinal points in chaos” for the drifting society and the more and more secularized man, alienated from God. They are sublime examples and marks of love and devotion to God and people. In our time of anxiety and confusion, St. Paisios is a guiding light for the more and more tormented and divided soul of the contemporary man. In the following pages, we shall mention his most important teachings trying to highlight the actuality, discernment and deep knowledge we can identify in the Holy Father’s sayings and writings, on one hand and our belief that the present pedagogy can find in these teachings the educational means, methods and principles of maximum efficiency, on the other hand.
