The last grand operation of the soul is judgment. Judgment differs from ratiocination: for first, it considers its object as invented with the notion of being good and eligible, and consists in some moral action; whereas ratioconation rests only in the verity of what's proposed, without any relation to good or evil. Judgment is act of the understanding deliberating upon what's proposed to the will, and directing it in its choice. This therefore must be allowed to be the greatest and noblest act of the soul, even greater than contemplation, which though it be conversant about a higher subject, yet is it but general and confused.
