Inasmuch as a clear conception of the anatomy and histology of any organ must always precede any successful attempt at a study of its pathological conditions, before taking up the clinical aspects of insanity the author proposes to recall a few of the major points in the anatomy and histology of the cerebrum, confining himself, except where other portions are intimately connected with our subject, to our ultimate aim, the cortex. In particular, it looks at: the histology of the cortex; the layers of the cortex; the finer structure of the nerve cell; and the growth of the intra-cortical nerve fibers and cellular layers.
