Death m ust be en sured for lymphocyte s that fail to acq uire a functional antigen re ce pt or and f tho se that happen to or generate a self-react ive receptor . Eq ually important, at the end of an imm une re spon se, mo st cell s of an e xpanded clone mll st be deleted to make way for new imm une re spon se s .
