The BDarch (Bénin Denmark archaeology) programme has its origins in the accidental discovery, by Danish road-builders, of subterranean structures (`caves') in 1998 and ended with the establishment by this project of an Archaeological Park and Museum at Agongointo, where the first caves were (re-) discovered. The sites excavated range from Late Stone Age (LSA) to Early Iron Working, to those dating to the Kingdom of Dahomey (ca 16451894).
