Conference on the International Energy Policy in Russia and the Law of the Sea Conference on the International Energy Policy in Russia and the Law of the Sea The Center for Oceans Law and Policy, University of Virginia School of Law, and the Russian Law of the Sea Association, Russian Institute for Ocean Law Studies Academy of Liberal Arts Education, Russian Humanitarian State University School of Law are co-hosting a conference on the “International Energy Policy in Russia and the Law of the Sea.” The 28th Annual Conference will be held June 23–26, 2004, in St. Petersburg at the Palace of “Grand Duke Vladimir.” Some of the world’s leading scholars and policy makers will give presenta- tions in seven moderated panels dealing with international energy policy and related topics. Presenters will include government representatives, oceans law experts and business leaders from Canada, Iceland, Germany, Norway, Russia, Scotland and the United States. Topics will include legal, scientiŽ c and envi- ro nm ent al asp ects o f th e N o rth Sea Pas sag e and A rctic Reg io n , en erg y resources exploration, and issues relating to energy transportation, supply and distribution. In addition, a Russian Foreign Ministry representative and H.E. Satya N. Nandan, Secretary General of the International Seabed Authority, have been invited to be the keynote speakers of the Conference. A detailed program can be found at http://www.virginia.edu/colp. Martinus Nijhoff Publishers will publish the proceedings of the Conference. Both institutes hosting the Conference have developed an informative pro- gram with carefully selected moderators, speakers and topics. It is a unique opportunity for scholars and decision-makers to meet and exchange ideas on important concerns in the oceans community. In addition, the accompanying program of cultural and social events (including a visit to the State Opera Theatre and a tour of beautiful St. Petersburg’s attractions ) will make this meeting a pleasant experience for spouses and others in attendance.
