How Can Life in the Deep Sea Be Protected? <jats:sec><jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The Area and the continental shelf contain living and non-living resources. Although these resources are not expressly regulated by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the International Seabed Authority is entitled to manage, protect and control these resources on behalf of humankind. However, intrusions in this highly sensitive environment by means of scientific explorations, bioprospecting or mining activities present considerable threats.
