His Czechoslovak propaganda activity in World War I therefore deserves rather more coverage than it finds in this selection of documents. Nevertheless, alongside the material already published, this edition provides his- torians with an ample base from which to evaluate R. W. Seton-Watson more critically. It details especially the crucial Slovak dimension of his career and suggests that he would not have been dismayed at the independent and democratic Slovakia of the millennium. Indeed, his newly restored monument in Ruzomberok is still relevant and didactic, recalling as in 1937 (doc. 169) his belief in the Slovak people's growing ma- turity and in their ability to live in harmony with the Magyar minority.
