Stephan Luther/Heinrich Lang BEZIEHUNGEN DER TECHNISCHEN UNIVERSITÄT CHEMNITZ IN DEN ARABISCHEN RAUM IN VERGANGENHEIT UND GEGENWART Summary: To study the development of international cooperation among universities as part of international cultural policy in the case of todays Technische Universität Chemnitz is valuable out of many reasons: 1) the cooperation to Arabic universities started in the German Democratic Republic, 2) it survived the ups and downs of the period of the unification of both Germanys, and 3) restarted to a new peak in the last years. This article presents in two parts the history of international relations during GDR-period and after 1989/1990 since the unification. The value of the activities to Arab countries is respected and assisted by special programs of the German Academic Exchange Office. This article is presented as an example of the innumerable activities of German universities in the academic world today. 1.
