Can Technology Even Things Up for Community Banks?

Can Technology Even Things Up for Community Banks? Community banks are the smallest of the commercial banks in the United States. They have been bracing to cope with the impact of interstate banking, with the distinct possibility of large banks encroaching on their hitherto protected market territories. The challenge for these banks has been one of survival in an environment dominated by “mega” banks and non‐bank financial firms able to provide the customers with an array of services at lower cost. In this environment, information technology plays a prominent role. The main purpose of our research was to find out how community banks perceive competitive threats from larger banks, how they have attained a threshold level of technology, and what they consider to be their strengths in competing with the larger rivals. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png American Journal of Business Emerald Publishing
