Design of bio-influenced printed monopole antenna with enhanced bandwidth for wireless sensor network

Design of bio-influenced printed monopole antenna with enhanced bandwidth for wireless sensor... This work presents a design of a new squashed printed monopole antenna (PMA) design bio-influenced from apta leaf for wireless sensor network applications operating at 2.4 GHz (ISM band). The proposed work provides an antenna prototype with enhanced bandwidth and better impedance matching (S11 < −10 dB). The parametric analyses were conceded to substantiate the properties of the proposed antenna. Antenna performance is studied in terms of bandwidth, reflection coefficient, impedance, VSWR, radiation pattern and gain. From the proposed bio-inspired PMA antenna, a reflection coefficient of −26.21 dB at 2.4 GHz and VSWR of 1.1028 is achieved with a bandwidth of 159.2 MHz on simulation tool, which has an approximately close response with experimental results of the reflection coefficient of −30.67 dB and VSWR of 1.01 dB. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated and results are measured on vector network analyser. The proposed work showed good agreement of simulated and experimental results. This paper proposes that the biologically inspired shape in antenna design provides a better enhancement in the bandwidth and reflection coefficient. The prototype is well suited for wireless sensor network applications operating in the ISM band. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Journal of Systems, Control and Communications Inderscience Publishers
