Abstract

This paper represents a grid connected 16 MW mega-solar with dedicated control system in complex landscape. The landscape considered in this study combines flat and angled land with different slope directions which affect the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of photovoltaic (PV) outputs. Also when a huge amount of large-scale mega-solar connects to a weak grid, attack currents will flow which voltage will increase connected bus and destabilised the grid. In this paper, to overcome such problems, we used a unique geographical information system (GIS) technique for optimal configuration of a large-scale mega-solar considering landscape. In order to connect such mega-solar to a weak power grid, a dedicated control system designed in MATLAB/Simulink, a manner that PVs are connected to DC/DC buck-boost converter with perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT controller and for DC/AC inverter, reference controller (abc-controller) and hysteresis current control are used. Keywords: mega-solar; landscape; geographical information system; GIS; MATLAB/Simulink; natural reference control; abc-control; hysteresis current control; maximum power point tracking; MPPT; DC/DC buck-boost converter; grid interconnection.
