Parathyroid Hormone-Related Protein and Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor Overexpression in... Poorly differentiated carcinomas of the bladder may develop endocrine activity by producing granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and parathyroid hormone-related protein. This may lead to a substantially elevated white blood cell count and hypercalcemia with subsequent distinctive clinical features. We report a well-documented case of high grade aggressive bladder cancer with paraneoplastic elevation of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and parathyroid hormone-related protein. Serum levels of calcium and white blood cell count were highly increased, whereas parathyroid hormone level was slightly decreased. Abstract

Poorly differentiated carcinomas of the bladder may develop endocrine activity by producing granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and parathyroid hormone-related protein. This may lead to a substantially elevated white blood cell count and hypercalcemia with subsequent distinctive clinical features.
