Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder Associated with Short-Term Suprapubic Catheterisation

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder Associated with Short-Term Suprapubic Catheterisation A 78-year-old man suffered from recurrent episodes of acute urinary retention and failed subsequent trials without catheter. As a result a suprapubic catheter was inserted. Eighteen months later he was referred with overgrowth of granulation tissue around the catheter site. Further investigation uncovered a squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder with extension to the anterior abdominal wall. This is the first case the authors could find of a bladder squamous cell carcinoma associated with suprapubic catheterisation in-situ for such a short length of time. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Current Urology Karger

Abstract

A 78-year-old man suffered from recurrent episodes of acute urinary retention and failed subsequent trials without catheter.
