Some observations on the newly born Bermuda II Leading articles P, van der Tuuk Adriani" The news, last year, that the United Kingdom had denounced their bilateral air services agreement with the United States of America came as a shock to many people concerned with air policy all over the world. The reason for this was that that Agreement, currently known as the Bermuda Agreement of 1946, was not but one of the hundreds if not thousands of bilateral air agreements concluded between pairs of States but that it set a pattern for a large number of other air agreements that were to be concluded, as well by the US and the UK with other countries as also between third countries between them. The US-UK Bermuda Agreement consequently got a tremendous importance and has determined the air political philosophy of a great many countries during an era of more than thirty years. It so far outreached the importance of a mere bilateral agreement that when the news of its denounciation became known, people who were not completely versed in matters of air policy thought that the UK had withdrawn from a multilateral agreement.
