Sudha & Nageswararao Siddhartha Institute of Dental Sciences, Chinaoutpally, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India ABSTRA CT The success of root canal treatment depends on effective disinfection of the entire root canal system. Cleaning and shaping and antimicrobial usage cannot completely eliminate bacterial load in the canal leading to reinfection. Herbal alternatives came into existence due to the ineffectiveness and potential side effects of synthetic drugs. This review highlights the antimicrobial properties of commonly used herbal medicaments in endodontics. Keywords: Acacia nilotica, Arctium lappa, Green tea polyphenol, Herbs, Morinda citrifolia, Propolis, Triphala essential oils and wax 30-50%, pollen 5-10%, aminoacids, INTRODUCTION minerals, vitamin A, B complex, E, bio-flavonoid (vitamin P) phenols, and aromatic compounds.
