Book Review: The Truth We Owe Each Other: Mutual Accountability in the Ecumenical Movement

Book Review: The Truth We Owe Each Other: Mutual Accountability in the Ecumenical Movement ATR/99.4 856 Anglican Theological Review conjoin around a single theme. I enthusiastically recommend this book to almost anyone interested in learning more about the Holy Spirit. Joanna Leidenhag University of Edinburgh Edinburgh, Scotland The Truth We Owe Each Other: Mutual Accountability in the Ecu- menical Movement. By Olav Fykse Tveit. Geneva: World Council of Churches, 2016. xi + 353 pp. $29.00 (paper). The Truth We Owe Each Other addresses an aspect of ecumenical rela- tions often left aside: our responsibility and commitment as Christians and as churches toward the others as part of our ecumenical endeavours. Tveit highlights ecumenical commitment as moral responsibility toward others. The book focuses on “the quality of relations,” the “attitude of active respon- sibility” that characterizes “authentic relationship[s]” and the profoundly “moral dimension of life together” (p. vii). Originally written as a thesis in completion of a PhD degree in 2002, this published version focuses on documents produced within the World Council of Churches and, especially, by the Commission on Faith and Or- der 1948–1998. It is a pity that the extensive work that culminated with the publication of WCC’s second convergence document, The Church: Towards Common Vision (2013) has largely been left out. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Anglican Theological Review SAGE
