Impact of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Strengthening Local Government... Democratic decentralisation and devolution have been the popular words for development economist. The system of local governance in India which is popularly known as Panchayat Raj Institution has created such spaces for its citizens and which became further strengthened through rights enactments like National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (NREGA). The three factors i.e. participation, capacity building and financial resources to LG in India has been strengthened by the enactments. In this paper, an attempt has been taken to analyse that how and to what extent NREGA has got impact on qualitative and quantitative participation of citizen in governing themselves. The second factor is the capacity building of the Panchayat: how NREGA activates the capacity building process of the local governance to address the local issues and expedites efficient delivery of the services, and then it also looks at the financial resources to determine the strength of the institution. 1.0 Introduction Democratic decentralisation and devolution have been the popular words of many countries of Asia and Africa during the last two decades of twentieth century.
