Abstract

Reviews 209 a new perspective on the classic Warner shorts. Although much of Tunes for Toons does rely on anecdotal evidence, the information provided (especially that relating to Carl Stalling and Scott Bradley) has perhaps been overlooked in the past and is therefore a useful resource for further study. Goldmark’s musical knowledge provides the reader with a new layer of meaning with which to understand these classic animation texts. Despite the fact that the author discusses musical terms in detail, jargon is limited and the material is accessible to non-musicians. This results in a valuable text for those wishing to understand animation music but who might not have a musical background. References Adorno, T.W. (1976) Introduction to the Sociology of Music.
