Having done anti-racism consulting and training with a multicultural training and con- sultation organization for twenty-five years, I was suspicious of a book written by a straight, white male. It helped a little that Chris Furr includes chapters written by people of other identities. My suspicions were allayed the more I read because the author invites his readers into his journey of discovery, struggle, and learning. Often, it’s the questions that you ask which open new avenues of exploration. Furr asks good questions. In his chapter on “Shedding Whiteness,” Furr talks about assimilation and interro- gates “what values we have made essential for belonging in our communities?
