mE BUDGET AND THE YEAR AHEAD This supplement to volume 2 no. 2 of the Australian Journal of Management contains the edited transcripts of three panelists' evaluations of the 1977/78 Australian Budget and of the informal question period which followed. The session was held in the Wentworth Hotel, Sydney, on August 23, 1977. The panelists were: Dr. Harold Bell, Economic Advisor to the Australian Mutual Provident Society Professor Malcolm Fisher, Foundation Professor specializing in Economics at the Australian Graduate School of Management Dr. Barry Hughes, Reader in Economics and Director of the Institute of Labour Studies at Flinders University (then on leave as Executive Assistant to the Premier of South Australia) The moderator was Professor Philip Brown, Director of the Australian Graduate School of Management. The immediate objective of the session was to evaluate the Budget and its implications for the year to June 30, 1978. However, there are two additional objectives in publishing the session proceedings as a supplement to the Australian Journal of Management. First, there is the analytical content of the panelists' discussions and comments. Second, their discussions and comments provide useful data on the present state of macroeconomics.
