On the one hand, the scholarly focus on a class analysis of the demands of movements for social transformation has often failed to account for the anti-patriarchal character of such demands and the influ- ence of feminist activists in shaping these agendas. On the other hand, some of the literature on women’s struggles has been concerned with the feminist credentials of women participants and their struggles in move- ments for social transformation. These two strands in the literature are both problematic, in the sense that they fail to fully account for women’s leadership of social movements.
