[The first homeopath to hold office as a public health physician was Tullio Verdi, president of the DC Health Board. His influence was evident in the enforcement of smallpox regulations, in the investigation of a yellow fever epidemic, and in his selection as a US representative to Europe, where he studied the successful European measures to protect public health. Other public health commissioners include Royal Copeland in New York City and Eugene Porter in New York State. Their work combating the influenza epidemic and controlling typhoid will be described. Activities of other homeopaths in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico will be summarized. Two English physicians who played a part in the domestic sanitation movement will be described.]
