[The 2013–2016 Ebola outbreak was a worldwide event with global impacts. It was also the largest disease event in the modern era to involve a BSL-4 pathogen. The outbreak lasted 920 days, from December 2, 2013, to June 9, 2016. During this time, almost 29,000 people were infected and more than 11,000 people died. The lessons learned from the outbreak will help shape public health protocols and policies for years to come.]
