[This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the lives of two chronic pain patients, and a participant who suffers chronic emotional pain. The chapter outlines the three men’s different experiences of pain management and the ways in which it has affected their life histories and life circumstances. It discusses experiences of chronic pain, and forms of dependent drug use associate with such pain, participant encounters with doctors, as well as conversations about how participants define problematic and ‘addictive’ consumption of painkillers in the context of chronic conditions and chronic suffering.]
