[To bring editing into full view, and sustain the potential for experimentation and reinvention, Greenberg offers a new poetics of the editing arts. This is an articulation of principles for a concrete form of making as well a broader perspective on the production of texts. The new poetics, which stands in a close relationship with rhetoric, responds to the need for an interpretive frame that attends to the subject in its own right, accounts for individual experience as well as wider social contexts and acknowledges a two-way process between practice and theory. It aims to capture the ability of editing to hold multiple possibilities in mind and move between open and closed states, thus allowing the text to move into a new cycle of life. ]
