[The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of consultation and collaboration in schools by school psychologists. Specifically, we review models of consultation that are relevant for school psychology and special education. We take a practical approach and examine consultation as it occurs in school settings. We highlight best practices but remain committed to providing a realistic look at current practices in schools. In this light, we describe problem-solving consultation focusing on interventions for academic and behavioral concerns and consultation when focusing on special education eligibility. The importance of collaboration and interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining working relationships are made clear in the discussion and case study. The case study provides a pragmatic example of how school psychologists collaborate with many different constituents and use different models of consultation depending on the needs of the school and students.
