Interbody fusion through lateral approach to thoraco-lumbar and lumbar spine (XLIF or DLIF) is gaining increasing popularity. It allows a direct approach to the spine from T11-T12 to L4-L5 (in some patients also L5-S1 is possible) and the arthrodesis of the vertebral body through a wide cage. Multiple publications describe the technique as safe and effective. A standard case is described with technical notes and images.
