[This chapter examines discourse strategies and their contribution to enlanguaged Alpha hegemony. Using De Cillia et al. (Discourse and Society 10:149–173, 1999) as a basic framework, constructive, perpetuating or justificative, and destructive or dismantling discursive patterns are identified and exemplified in the three corpora. These involve the use of just-is factitive and rhetorical constructions, citation and appeal to authority, and the activation of scientific orders of discourse. Collectively, these strategies are argued to position the Alpha male at the center of and cast him as arbitor of a hegemonic gender steeped in broader discourses of positivism and neoliberalism.]
