Chemical Dependence Involving Glucocorticoids The abuse of anabolic steroids has been well documented in the literature. In contrast, relatively little is written about the abuse potential of glucocorticoids. A case report of a 51-year-old man with substance dependence on prednisone is reported. The abuse of anabolic steroids has been well documented in the literature. In contrast, relatively little is written about the abuse potential of glucocorticoids. A case report of a 51-year-old man with substance dependence on prednisone is reported. The limited available literature on the abuse of glucocorticoids is briefly reviewed, and the challenge of treating patients who abuse these medications discussed.
