Clusterbean, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (Family Fabaceae), is a drought tolerant summer legume mainly grown in the north-western parts of India. India is the single largest producer and exporter of guar gum accounting for more than 80 % of total global output and trade. Forty genotypes of clusterbean were evaluated for a period of 3 years (2005–2007) under rainfed conditions to study the climatic responses and the association patterns of gum and endosperm content vis-à-vis morphological traits. The climatic parameters had significant impacts on the seed yield and gum content. Seed yield, yield attributing traits and gum content were markedly differed in their responses to the climate variables. Higher temperature (36.1 °C), lower relative humidity (78 %), more duration of sunshine (11 h) have been observed to be responsible for higher seed yield and gum content in the plant. The highest positive correlations were found with seed yield and pods/plant (r = 0.89), seeds/pod (r = 0.53), secondary branches/plant (r = 0.49), plant height (r = 0.48) and primary branches/plant (r = 0.29). Endosperm exhibited significant positive association with gum content.
