[Be it forensic sciences, drug development, disease diagnosis, or mutation studies, all are related to DNA isolation. There are multiple methods through which DNA isolation can be done. Some techniques claim to provide highly pure DNA but trade-off with the yield, and others high at the yield but compromise purity. The technique of DNA extraction from agarose gel through paper strips is advantageous over its counterparts in the low cost and less instrumentation required. The technique works on a simple principle of inserting the filter papers between the slits cut on the agarose gel. Electrophoresis is continued until the bands of the DNA are not collected on the filter paper. This is followed by centrifugation for the elution of the DNA from the filter paper. The present article highlights the steps involved in this process and gives an overview of the precautions that should be kept in mind while performing this technique.]
