[The followers of Schelling, henceforth called Schellingians, undertook different approaches in their composition of general histories of philosophy. As they were in competition with each other during German Idealism the differences of their interpretations with regard to their master Schelling’s thought are examined here, bearing in mind their own attachment to Romanticism. Quite a few concepts used by the Schellingians, such as original philosophy, intellectual intuition, life of the spirit, and their ideas on the circle and decay of the history of philosophy are reexamined which scholarly research usually has neglected to address. Often the Schellingians expressed themselves in metaphors and imagery in order to describe the development of their understanding of certain epochs and motives, while their essential aspects became manifest in the idea of totality, philosophia perennis, and hermeneutics. The overview on sectoral contributions to the history of philosophy by the Schellingians concentrates here mostly on those works which portray, within the history of philosophy, particular periods and cultures, such as Ancient and Oriental or Eastern philosophy. - A detailed outline of Georg Anton Friedrich Ast’s (1778-1841) and Thaddäus Anselm Rixner's (1766-1838) life and works exemplify both as typical exponents of Schelling’s philosophy. They aimed to present historiy of philosophy as a collection of documants gathered from people through the ages who want to understand philosophy itself as an omnipresent “organism” and they provided a model of an organism that was vividly interrelated with nature, human knowledge, and facts.]
