[A Fine-Grain Multithreading architecture is one in which an instruction (or instructions, but most FGMT processors are scalar or VLIW) from a different thread can be issued every cycle, but only a single thread can issue an instruction in a particular cycle. That is, the architecture can perform a context switch in one cycle—in many cases, the pipeline actually seeks to do a context switch between threads every cycle.
