[Our definition of a multithreaded processor is one that has the ability to follow multiple instruction streams without software intervention. In practice, then, this includes any machine that stores multiple program counters in hardware within the processor (i.e., on chip, for microprocessor-era machines). This definition spans the range from simultaneous multithreading to chip multiprocessing.
