[Oral health is important throughout life and the end-of-life period is no exception. As people approach end-of-life, oral problems are common and so oral health interventions have the potential to significantly improve and maintain a patient’s quality of life. However, there are additional considerations for this patient cohort including potentially different goals of treatments, an increased need for teamworking in supporting the patient, and a greater importance on flexibility to adapt to the patient’s needs during this constantly changing time of their life. A well-constructed treatment plan incorporating these considerations ensures that the patient is well supported at a time where quality of life is paramount. Regardless of illness, a patient should be actively involved in their own care planning and a process of shared-decision making should be followed which considers their health, personal views, preferences and ability to access and tolerate treatment.]
