Abstract

[In the conclusions, a summary of the book is first presented. The second section reviews and summarizes the problems with the current development paths identified in Chapter 9 and leads into an open discussion with regard to what is necessary for an alternative to TNC-dominated neoliberal globalization, and what aspects would constitute an alternative development path. The analysis concentrates on specifically Argentina and Brazil but also considers the possibilities of greater regional development in the future. Nevertheless, the most pressing concerns are surviving the COVID-19 pandemic and concomitant economic crisis, which is presented in a postscript. Unfortunately, the pandemic is particularly problematic in Argentina and especially in Brazil with Bolsonaro. In any case, in the post-COVID-19 world, the urgent task will be promoting alternative development paths and a process of transition beyond neoliberalism, if not capitalism.]
