Persian Paradises at Peril: Applying Landscape Assessment Criteria [One of the important features of historic cities in Iran has been the harmonious coexistence of urban life with nature. The presence of gardens in living areas enhances life qualities such as freshness and vitality. This fact has led to formation of garden-alleys inside urban and rural areas. The garden-alleys of YazdYazd Historic City are one of the most noticeable landscape features of this city in its xeric desert climate. As a combination of natural and built elements, the garden-alley boasts functions far beyond a conventional urban alleyUrban alleys. Considering the destructive trend of garden-alleys a comprehensive survey of their vulnerable nature is highly necessary. This chapter aims at providing an analytical report of the current situation and features of garden-alleys their landscape in YazdYazd Historic City City. Identification and analysis of the selected cases rely on both literature review and field surveys leading to an analytical classification.
