[The rift system in North East Coast-Mahanadi (NEC-MND) basins has been developed during the separation of India and Antarctica, similar to those in Krishna-Godavari (KG) and Cauvery (CY) basins. The rift architecture is well established in the KG and CY basins, both in the onshore as well as offshore. Few publications have reported the presence of rift systems in offshore Mahanadi basin, but very little is known about the continued presence of the rift system to the north of the Mahanadi Basin, in the NEC Basin. The present article has documented the continuation of the rift systems in the offshore NEC Basin, based on interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic reflection data. The internal architecture of the rift grabens have been interpreted and thickness maps been generated to show the distribution of the sediments within the grabens. Seismic velocity data and 2D forward gravity model has also been used to bring out additional informations about the basement and crustal structure.]
