[The chapter concludes the book with a summary of the theoretical framework and the empirical findings, and provides a discussion of the implications of these findings for democracy promotion by international actors in Sub-Saharan Africa. It argues that international democracy assistance should shift its focus with regard to the civil society organizations it supports. Instead of channeling the bulk of support through professional advocacy organizations, international donors should broaden the scope of organizations they collaborate with and provide assistance to organizations that represent their members in the political process through public demonstrations and strikes, such as trade unions and student associations. The chapter closes with suggestions for further research.]
