[This chapter attempts to add to the discussion on the impact of crises on regionalism by assessing the case of the European neighbourhood. The current economic crisis, which has severely hit particularly the southern members of the Eurozone, has turned out to be a serious test for global governance and for national governments, indicating the need to redesign economic and development policies at all levels of governance. Furthermore, the ‘dignity’ uprisings in the Arab world constitute a parallel crisis whose social and systemic impact could prove equally powerful.]
