[The provision of public services is a core function of modern governments and is closely related to residents’ happiness levels. In this study, we investigated the relationship between levels of residents’ satisfaction with public services provided by the government and their happiness levels. The results show that residents’ rates of satisfaction with six types of government services—social security, social order, public transport, education, health care, and commodity prices—were all significantly related to their overall satisfaction levels for the government. We also found that residents’ satisfaction with public services provided was a key factor in determining their happiness levels, with its impact differing across regions, income levels, age, gender, and professions. Of the six types of public services examined in this study, commodity prices, social security, and education have the most significant effect on the public’s happiness levels.]
