A course in Institutional Child Care 6O. The Victorian Council of Social Service has taken the first steps in Victoria to institute a course for members of staff wowklng in Child Care and has met a long-felt need with conspicuous success. After a survey of the position, it was plain that an experimental course would be welcomed by the management of Children's Homes, and the Child VLclfare Committee of the Council planned a course that would run for 24 weeks with lectures lasting l½ hours one afternoon a week. Four lecturers wore used, each one giving six consecutive lectures. Thlrty-five students started the course but there has been a sliEht drop in figures on account of holidays, changing positions and sickness. Con- siderable enthusiasm has been shown by the students who have derived great benefit from the lectures, and ample discussion has helped them to relate theory and practical problems. The lecturers were:- Dr. F. Duras - Physical Development ~Ir. K. Cathcart, Child and Adolescent Psychology Dr. J. Stirrat - Leadership and Group Relationships Dr. M. Tewsley - Domestic Science, Hygiene and Nutrition.
