Summary A new species of Heteropezini, Neostenoptera congoensis, recently caught in the People's Republic of the Congo, is described, illustrated, and compared with its closest relatives including a species known from a specimen preserved in African copal. The point is made that fossils and their names are ignored which results in nomenclatural confusion and loss of potential systematic information.
