SUMMARY L. Bonnemaison: Effect of maturity of the host plant and crowding on the production of alate virginiparae in the pea Aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum). The crowding (Effet de groupe) applied to apterous forms causes in less than 24 hours the production of winged forms in their descent. The antennae and the tibiae are not organs « transmitters » of the crowding but have a receiving part as is demonstrated by the removal of organs; the incomplete deposit of an isolating layer on the 6 tibiae strongly diminishes the production of the alate forms. The young leaves whose petiole is bathed in water, quickly offer perturbations for enzymes as well as for amino-acids, ripe leaves contain less amino-acids than young leaves. It is likely to these alterations that it is suited to attribute the apparition of alate forms among the l1 sejourning 48 h on young leaves or mature leaves cup or in the descent of wingless fed with those leaves.
