Summary L. Bonnemaison: Action of the photoperiod on the diapause induction in Mamestra brassicae. The experiments have been made with a clone of Mamestra brassicae collected in the vicinity of Paris; the larvae have been reared at 20 or 23° C on cabbage leaves or synthetic food with different scotoperiods. For scotoperiods of 12 to 20 hours, the minimal percentages of diapause have been observed when the scotoperiod is interrupted by two hours of light between the eighth and the tenth hour after the beginning of the scotoperiod. The diapause percentages are all the more important as the number of long scotoperiods is larger during the larval development. The most sensitive larvae instars are, by increasing order, the 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th and the beginning of the 6 th instar.
