In the spirit of this undoubted truth John Maiden, Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at the Open University, gives a retrospective on one of the most significant religious phenomena of the second half of the twentieth century. He knows of what he speaks. The sources are extensive and range from interviews, oral testimonies, multiple archives, magazines and newsletters, albums and songs, and both primary and secondary published texts. Most participants in the ‘renewal’ will recognise much that is here, but perhaps for the first time will be introduced to the full scope of what they have been involved in.
