However, the two authors provide differing accounts of the way in which the gift informs patterns of energy exchange on social, economic, and political levels. Georges BatailleÕs founding principle is that there exists an abundant, indeed excessive, supply of energy on this earth Ð the Òunilateral gift that the sun makes of its energy.Ó Jean leslie anne boldt-irons Baudrillard, however, takes issue with what he describes as the non-reciprocal nature of the gift in BatailleÕs model for social exchange, based as BATAILLE AND it is on the unending supply of solar energy.
