Book Review: Intellectual Freedom Manual (tenth edition) JOURNAL OF ACCESS SERVICES REVIEWS AND REMARKS Book Review: Intellectual Freedom Manual (tenth edition), by Office for Intellectual Freedom. Chicago, IL: American Library Association, 2021. Intellectual freedom remains a cornerstone of library work, regardless of library type. As with previous editions, the Office of Intellectual Freedom (OIF) addresses chal- lenges in response to changing needs and circumstances with the release of the tenth edition of the Intellectual Freedom Manual. This manual provides current interpreta- tions of American Library Association (ALA) policies and guidelines regarding com- mon information freedom issues, such as copyright, access, censorship, collection development, and policy creation guidelines. Those new to the Intellectual Freedom Manual will find it thoughtfully arranged with well-defined chapters and consistent navigation to make locating information easy. The OIF manual employs a user-friendly, intuitive organizational format for the Intellectual Freedom Manual, with three main parts further divided into chapters. Each chapter highlights a common or current issue, followed by official ALA state- ments that are more closely examined through one or more essays. Historical essays have been relocated into a separate, supplemental manual, as noted within each topical interpretation. As with the previous iteration, the tenth edition begins by listing five things one http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Access Services Taylor & Francis
