Book review "Directory of Social Services", published by Victorian Council of Social Service, Melbourne, 1953. Price - 12/6. Posted- 13/-. Alma E. Hartshorn The Victorian Council of Social Service has just pub- lished its first directory of social services in Victoria, this service having previously been provided by the Citizens' Welfare Service. The last directory published by the ls~ter orgsnisation was produced in 1948; in the intervening years much of the informs~ion had inevitably been out-dated, and many new social service activities had been launched in Victoria. Hence the time was ripe for the publication of a new directory. For that reason alone the 1953 Directory will be received with delight by social workers and others whose work dems~ds a knowledge of ths social services available in Victoria. As they put it into use, they will come to appreciate it far its comprehensiveness and the care that has gone into its com- pilation. A well-classified table of contents and an alphabetical index simplify its use as a reference work. 52. The book commences with a most comprehensive state- ment on statutory agencies, both Commonwealth and State, which includes most of the information needed for day to day use in social work. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian Journal of Social Work Taylor & Francis
